It is with great sadness that we inform of the passing of Ms. Claudette Valentine, on Friday, 6th March 2015. Ms. Valentine was the Librarian/Information Services Manager of the ECSC Headquarters.
A Jamaican national, Ms. Valentine began her employment with the ECSC on 13th January 2003. Under her portfolio she was responsible for the development and maintenance of the Court’s information management systems and the storage, retrieval and dissemination of a wide range of technical, legal, statistical and reference material to enhance the effective operation of the ECSC.
Ms. Valentine brought a degree of professionalism, enthusiasm and vibrancy to her duties that is unmatched. Many would agree that she was always poised and willing to assist whenever she was called upon to do so. She was a woman of God who was known for her spirituality, positivity and unwavering faith. Her kind heart, cheerful nature and jovial spirit was a breath of fresh air to all with whom she worked and encountered.
Philosopher Arthur Schopenhaurer wrote “The deep pain that is felt at the death of every friendly soul arises from the feeling that there is in every individual something which is inexpressible, peculiar to h[er] alone, and is, therefore, absolutely and irretrievably lost.” Ms.Valentine was indeed a rare and special gem whose existence had a profound impact on so many. She will be sorely missed and fondly remembered, particularly by the Chief Justice, Judges, Management and Staff of the ECSC.
We extend heartfelt condolences to her son Levaughn, his wife Juliet and other relatives and friends.
May she rest in perfect peace.
