SUBJECT: COURT OF APPEAL – CASE MANAGEMENT CONFERENCE
The sitting of the Court of Appeal is scheduled for Grenada during the week commencing 2 5th February 29, 2019. As is customary, we will be conducting a case management conference to determine the readiness of the matters on the preliminary list which is attached. Please note that an updated list will be sent over the next few days.
The following information will be required;
(1) Whether there will be any requests for adjournments and the reason(s) for the request;
(2) Whether the parties are ready to proceed with the appeals/applications;
(3) If yes, whether all necessary documents have been filed, if not, the date of intended filing:
(4) Whether the DPP is ready to proceed with all Magisterial and High Court criminal appeals on the list;
(5) The estimated length of time for hearing the appeal/application;
(6) Any other matter that should be brought to the attention of the court.
The case management conference will be held on Thursday January 31, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at High Court No. 1 Church Street, St. George’s. Kindly note all Status Hearing matters will not be case managed.
The case management will be conducted in the order of the matters as listed.
Attorneys-at-law are advised of the necessity to attend the case management and in the event that you are unable to attend, you should make arrangements to have another Attorney attend on your behalf. Please ensure that the Attorney is instructed to provide the court with the relevant information on the matter as listed above.
Attorneys-at-law are reminded that the purpose of the Case Management Conference is to determine the state of readiness of the parties. This will be done by the Chief Registrar or the Deputy Registrar’s noting the position as indicated by Counsel. Counsels are asked to note that the Chief Registrar and the Deputy Chief Registrar will NOT be hearing or granting applications for extensions of time for filing nor will directions be given for the filing of documents, including written submissions. Counsels are to be guided by the Rules which clearly state the timelines for filing, as well as the measures to be adopted if these timelines are not complied with.
