The Hon. Chief Justice, Dame Janice M. Pereira, Judges and administrative and support staff of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court join the regional legal fraternity in mourning the death of Carol Walter John Bristol, QC.
A Saint Lucian by birth, Mr. Bristol was educated in Grenada. He was called to the Bar at Gray’s Inn, England in 1954, after which he returned to Saint Lucia as an Associate in the legal firm of Gordon, Salles, Miquell & Mathurin. During the period 1955 – 1957 he held various positions including Acting Registrar of the Supreme Court in Saint Lucia; Registrar of the Supreme Court in St. Kitts, Nevis & Anguilla; Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court of the Windward & Leeward Islands, headquartered in Grenada; and Assistant to the Attorney General of the Windward Islands. In April 1959 he joined Mr. F.M. Henry & Mr. Denis Henry to establish the firm of Henry, Henry & Bristol.
On the retirement of Sir Denis Henry Q.C (1981), he assumed the position of senior partner. He acted as Chief Justice of Grenada in 1990, until restoration of the O.E.C.S. Court in 1991, when he resumed private practice.
Mr. Carol Bristol was widely recognized throughout the Eastern Caribbean as one of the foremost authorities on Property and Conveyance law. He served as the President of the Rotary Club of Grenada, President of Grenada Jaycees, President of the West Indies Jaycees and President of the Grenada Bar Association and of Grenada Sports Council.
He died on Tuesday, September 30, 2014, in Grenada.
