The University of the West Indies, St Augustine Campus, in conjunction with The Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court Judicial Education Institute (JEI) have partnered in providing continued 5–day mediation training workshops in the OECS states and territories. Cost of the training is normally borne by individuals and organisations who are solicited to fund their employee’s attendance at the training workshops.
In the case of Anguilla, this year, the Ministry of Social Development – Department of Youth and Culture approached the Court to provide training for Social workers, and other stakeholders. Funding was obtained from UNICEF, and the workshop was held in Anguilla during the week of 22nd to 26th May 2017 with 25 participants in attendance.
The workshop was facilitated by Ms. An Diaz from the University of The West Indies. Ms. Diaz, a human resource practitioner, comes with over 20 years’ experience. She is a qualified Mediator and a certified Trainer by William Mitchell College of Law of Canada and the Mediation Board of Trinidad & Tobago.
